Institute Cargo Clauses
The standard market wordings for cargo cover — (A), (B) and (C).
Definition
The clause sets that almost all cargo cover is written on. The current editions are dated 1 January 2009 and carry the reference numbers CL382 for (A), CL383 for (B) and CL384 for (C); they replaced the 1982 editions, which are still encountered in older contracts. Alongside them sit the Institute War Clauses (Cargo) CL385, the Institute Strikes Clauses (Cargo) CL386 and the Institute Cargo Clauses (Air) CL387.
Why it decides money
Two policies that both say "Institute Cargo Clauses" can cover entirely different things. The letter and the edition year are the whole meaning; a certificate that names neither is not telling you what you bought.
